The Oman Air team is looking to make it big at the 2017 Extreme Sailing Series event and wants to win the crown of this world event. They have appointed Phil Robertson as the skipper of the Oman Air team for three 2017 Extreme Sailing Series. The race will kick start in Muscat, Oman on the 8th of March.
Oman Air had a very good season last year as they started the event on the leaderboard after the first race. Later, they went on to lose the Extreme Sailing Series 2016 title to eventual winners Alinghi in the final act. They had Morgan Larson as the skipper in 2016 and the other crew members were Nasser Al Mashari, James Wierzbowski, Pete Greenhalgh and Ed Smyth.
This season, Robertson will be replacing Larson at the helm, having taken a year out to look after his Croatian Bareboat charter interests, and the team will be looking to retain their top spot till the very end like last year and in fact, go one step forward and claim the title at the end of the final act.
Robertson has vast experience in the extreme Sailing Series circuit and said that he was excited to be joining the Oman Air team. He was a wild card in 2016 and has skippered Team Russia in 2014 and 2015. Robertson said that the guys competing in the racing series are mentally and physically tough and will be pushing with all the might to grab the podium finishes. He said that he is also determined to drive the team so that they have a very good shot at the title.
Robertson knows that the Oman Air team is one of the most experienced and reputable teams on the Extreme Sailing Series circuit. He will be putting a lot of commitment and hard work to ensure that the team’s flag is kept flying. He is very happy to be leading a talented bunch of guys.
